THE BIKER

This painting took me just over ten hours to complete. It was not done in one sitting but rather multiple sessions of an hour or two at a time. These photos show the process of this painting which is part of my New Orleans series. The first photo shows how I started the piece as a very simple block in of shapes. The second image is the first layer of paint where I block in the colors and values. In this first phase, I add paint thinner to my oils to create a very thin and runny or drippy application of the paint. I sometimes add paint thinner onto the canvas so that it will eat away at thicker areas of paint. The third photo is probably around 8 or 9 hours of work as there is a significant jump in progress from the second photo and the third. The last photo shows the finished piece, where I added some small details and highlights to make certain areas pop.
