This scene was captured in Maison, a bar on Frenchmen street in New Orleans. This 18×20 piece took just under 10 hours to complete. I seemed to have forgotten to snap a photo of just the sketch before I put any paint on it but luckily you can still pretty much see what the sketch looked like in the first photo; loose and basic shapes. Just as in the pieces before I began with a very thin layer of oil paint and then chose to begin detailing the two figures in the middle; under the spotlight and therefore the focal point. I then began to work my way outward into the background and surrounding figures; trying to remain loose with my brushwork so as not to take any focus away from the two figures in the center but giving the other figures the necessary amount of detail. Overall I had a lot of fun painting this piece and played with some different color pops in the figures skin tones to jazz it up a little. (see what I did there?) 😉
Fun Fact: This painting won an Honorable Mention at 4th Fridays at Starline Factory in 2017!
