FRENCHMEN ART MARKET

initial-blocking-of-light-and-dark-colors

This will probably be my shortest blog post as I painted this piece back in 2016, before I decided to make a real effort to fully document the progress of my work, however my process is still very similar to what it is now. It started with a very simple sketch, and a block in of lights and darks. I find it interesting, if you’ve been following my blog that you can see I was really just starting to explore using the thinned out “drippy” texture that is so prominent in the current pieces. It is only evident in the foreground of this piece. Everything else is pretty solidly blocked in.

This photo shows the painting at about 50% completion. There is paint on the whole piece and I’ve laid in detail in the figures of the painting but I haven’t quite locked in all the details just yet.

This photo shows the completed painting. This is the third piece of my ongoing New Orleans series, this adorable art market is right near the Spotted Cat on Frenchmen Street and I could not pass up painting this cute scene with all the great lights!
